"a few individual Nokia CA-146C charger adapters"...

Well I've had two N97's in the past 2 weeks (first had to go back because of a screen fault). I changed everything including the box, not just the phone, and both my CA-146C got very hot after only a few minutes when I used a new (2mm pin) charger. I haven't tried with an old style charger.

So I'd say that it's pretty likely their is a generic design fault.

Well, nice to know that it's not just the iphone that can melt plastic ;-)
